A Christian friendship is the greatest thing that we can have on Earth. Someone that will bring us closer to God, and will encourage and push us to be better followers of God.
These are the characteristics God gives of a true friend:
1) MUTUAL FAITH: Romans 1:12 - "That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me."
Belief in God can bring any two people together, and it is what keeps them together. The bond that God creates between two people is stronger than anything in the world. It allows us to worship together, pray for one another, and comfort one another.
2) LOVE: Proverbs 17:17 - "A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."
A friend that loves is a true friend. Genuine love is the strongest feeling for someone. God's love is what brings us to wake up each day, and it is what will bring us together one day. Like the love God has for us, our relationship with our sisters and brothers in Christ is everlasting. We are to care for one another, and show them that they are loved. Even when we mess up, love will always bring us back to God.
3) PURE HEART: Proverbs 22:24-27 - "Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:"
People with a pure and gentle heart is few and far between, but once we find those people, it is a true blessing. This is a person that seems to always have a kind word for people and tries to encourage others. These are the people that will find true friends. A person that shows kindness, will receive it. God will send them friends that match their worth.
4) SACRIFICE: John 15:13 - "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
Jesus is the prime example of great sacrifice for the ones He loves. He died on the cross so the world could be saved. He faithfully put his life on the line for all of us, and He didn't have any second thoughts about it. Because he loved us, He died, and nothing could be more powerful.
Sometimes, we are forced to sacrifice things for our friends. We do this to show them we love them, cherish them, and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep their friendship.
5) A COMFORTER: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - "Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."
While on Earth, Christians will go through a lot of heartbreak. As sin continues in the world, there is going to be troubles. Though, we can have friends that will help bring us through these troubles; a friend to hug us, a friend to pray with us, and a friend that will pick us up when we're down. No truer friend, but a friend that is following God.
